Identity Verification
Understand when identity verification may be required, what the process involves, and how your data is protected.
Identity Verification
At RentWize, we keep things simple and secure.
Who needs to verify?
Identity verification is only requested where required for a sensitive workflow. It is not required for ordinary Free or Plus record-keeping, and it is not part of the normal four-step account onboarding.
- Free tier: No verification needed.
- Plus tier: No verification needed.
- Pro tier: Verification may be required before sensitive exports or workflows are available.
What's involved
We use Didit, a highly secure identity verification service. The entire check takes about two minutes and involves two simple steps:
- Photo ID upload — Snap a clear photo of your government-issued ID (such as a driver's licence, passport, or Medicare card).
- Liveness check — Complete a quick selfie scan using your device's camera to verify you match your ID.
Once verification is complete, RentWize stores only the verification status and reference metadata needed to operate the workflow.
Start verification
Complete account sign-up and the four onboarding steps first. When verification is required, open Dashboard → Verify identity to start the separate Didit flow. If the route is unavailable or your session has expired, return to the dashboard and sign in again.
Data Retention & Privacy (Sydney-First)
Your privacy is our priority. We host our infrastructure locally in Australia, and we ensure your sensitive identity documents are handled with the highest standards of protection:
- Status-only in RentWize: RentWize stores verification status and reference metadata, not ordinary Evidence Vault copies of your identity documents.
- Secure verification flow: Use only the in-app verification flow. Do not send passports, licences, Medicare cards, bank statements, or payslips through support chat.
- Zero landlord sharing: RentWize does not share your identity documents with landlords, real estate agents, or other tenants.
- Data minimisation: Raw identity document handling should remain inside the approved verification provider workflow wherever possible.
Troubleshooting
If your identity check fails, please ensure:
- Your ID document is valid and has not expired.
- The photo of your ID is clear, with no glare, shadows, or cropped edges.
- You are in a well-lit room when completing the selfie liveness check.
